Questions

Frequently asked questions.

What is free during the beta?

Free always covers up to four cameras on one machine. During the beta, unlimited cameras and nodes are free. The beta is for finding problems with real cameras and networks before 1.0.

What happens when the beta ends?

Vörðr 1.0 will be released with the pricing on this page, and the end of the beta will be announced in advance. An install with up to four cameras on one machine continues on Free. A larger beta install keeps running and recording, and it needs Home or Pro to install releases after 1.0.

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay once, and the version you buy keeps working. Renewing buys another year of updates, and it is optional. Recording, notifications and remote access do not depend on a current payment.

What happens when my year of updates ends?

Nothing changes on your box. You can install any release that was published while your updates were current. If you renew later, you also get every release published in between, and if you renew early, the new year is added to the time you have left.

What counts as a camera?

One video source. A camera's main and sub streams are one camera. A doorbell is one camera. A multi-lens camera with separate feeds counts each feed as one camera.

How do boxes count?

A box is one machine. A capture node and an inference service installed on the same machine count as one box, so Free on Linux still includes AI confirmation. Adding a second machine to a site needs Home or Pro, and the camera limit counts cameras on every box at the site.

Can I use Free or Home for my business?

Free and Home are for home use. A shop, office, farm business or rental property needs Pro whatever the number of cameras, which keeps the Home price low.

Does Vörðr contact a server to check my license?

No. A license is a signed file that the box checks locally. Vörðr does contact downloads.vordrnvr.com to check for updates, and that request does not include your license or anything about your cameras.
